Cast off (or bind off -- same thing) correctly and your work will not unravel. Leave a yarn tail of 5"-6" and get out a huge needle. Many places that sell yarn also sell the yarn needles in either metal or plastic. Both are ok. Thread the needle by folding your yarn in half and wiggling the needle's eye down over the fold. Pull the loose end of the tail through the eye of the needle. Sew the tail into the work and pull it a little bit tight, then trim it off and stretch your knit piece so the end disappears.
