I have a jumper made with 80% wool, 20% nylon. What's the best way to wash it so that it stays good?
You can hand wash it in cool/cold water with a very mild detergent like Woolite. I use the bathtub (not the washing machine tub!) as I can swish jumpers through a lot of water and not mash the fibers. Refill the tub with the same temperature water and rinse. Place the jumper on a thick soft towel and shape it; put another towel on top and roll them into a sausage to blot out the water. Do not wring or twist!
Hot water and wring/twisting will felt the fibers and cause it to shrink terribly.
Unroll the towels and lay the jumper on a dry towel, shaping it to its original form.
You can also purchase a home dry cleaning kit, such as "Dryel". The special cleaning solution is added on a cloth pad to a velcroed shut bag and tossed in the dryer with your jumper for a few minutes. Then remove the jumper from the bag and lay it flat to breathe and dry.
