Tie Very
There is an etiquette for the way a man dresses and this includes his tie. A regular tie wearer will be aware of many of the fashion rules, but for those who don't regularly wear one, tie etiquette is very important, if you want to look stylish and not draw attention to yourself for the wrong reasons.
The first rule is the length of the tie, the front or wide part of the tie should reach to top of your trouser waistband or belt. It is definitely spending some time to perfect the length of your tie, as too short or too long will look very unstylish.
The favoured choice of knot is either the four-in-hand knot or the half Windsor, which is a slightly thinner knot and will give the tie a slightly longer length. The knot should just fill the gap at the top of your shirt between the two collars. Always take care to avoid over tightening the knot. Practicing these knots will serve you well. Always ensure that your collar covers the mid section of your tie at the back of your neck.
The loop at the back of the tie, which is sometimes known as a keeper, can be used to hold the thinner blade of the tie, but this isn't necessary, and affords a more stylish look without using this.
If you choose to do so, a tie pin or bar should be worn in the middle of the tie. The best way to achieve this, when fastened, gently fold the tip at the base of the tie upwards against the base of the knot, the gentle fold will be the middle, this is the correct position for your pin.
The purpose of the pin is to retain the smaller blade at the back of your tie and this is entirely optional. As with any men's jewellery care should be taken to select a tasteful pin, If in doubt, leave without.
After wearing always remove your tie carefully, and then preferably, neatly hang in your wardrobe, alternatively you can roll your tie for storage. The exception to the rule are knitted ties, which should always be stored rolled as hanging them will stretch the material.
These simple rules will ensure that when you wear a tie you will look stylish and feel comfortable in your surroundings.
