Holes in my scarf?? WHY?
I made a crochet scarf for my friend's birthday. It was 4 colors with a border. I put black in between each of the other 3 colors, and I also used black for the border. When I finished, it looked fine, but after about 2 days, she said there was a hole in it. I took it back home, and there was a hole... a pretty big one. I was thinking the cause may be because I didn't weave in tails for every single stripe--sometimes I just tied a strong knot and then cut it as close as possible because I figured you wouldn't see it anyways because of the border.
Why did that happen? Now I fixed it, but she says there ANOTHER hole. Is the only possible reason because I did not weave in the ends? If this has ever happened to you, please let me know what you did to fix it. Thank you!
It could be what you've described. Perhaps with use, the knots you tied have loosened up and come undone. I've found that leaving a very long end (6-8 inches) when tying off solves this problem. I then use a yarn needle (very large eye and blunt end) to weave in that loose end through completed stitches. I hate that chore, but it does keep things from unraveling, and is as much of your finished project as the crocheting.
I've found that if I take the time to weave in the loose ends as I go along, its not as onerous a job as saving it for the end.
