Dressing for the office: thin tie or wide tie - and what sort of knot?
So, I'm getting ready to start my first office job soon, and I'm wondering what sort of look I should go for. I have to be smart and wear a shirt and tie, but basically I want to look the best I possibly can within that - sharp and stylish and ready for business! So I have a few questions. The third of which is:
Should I go for those skinny ties that seem to be in at the moment, or should I go for the classic wide ones? And what sort of knot should I go for with the tie - big and chunky (a double windsor?) or something small and modest? I want to look as sharp as possible, so what's going to be best to impress?
Shinny ties are an unfortunate fashion fad that pokes its ugly head up every few years. Stick to classic wider ties in solids or simple geometrics. You can't go wrong with spread collar shirts and a nice perfectly-executed big tie knot to showcase your professionalism. That means at least the half-Windsor, if not the full-Windsor, tie knot. That will take practice in order to get the proper knot and length, but the outcome will be well worth it. Good luck.
