Romantic and plush fabrics are used in many ways to create various styles of wedding gowns and veils. Chiffon dresses are the most popular fabric for brides around the world, especially for beach weddings. Being one of the floating romantic fabrics with a simple weave of silk and rayon, its soft nature makes it a wonderful picture on the shore line and the gentle movement of fabric in a gentle breeze creates a romantic scene, with the bride dressed in a chiffon wedding gown center stage. There is also a cheaper version made of polyester-silk blend. This material is soft and has a stiff finish. It is usually made in delicate sheets and often dripped in layers.

Other fabrics include:

Satin: A silk or synthetic blended fabric with a smooth shiny and glossy unbroken surface. The plush material is made with a satin lace using thread such as silk, nylon or polyester.Georgette: A pure lightweight fabric often made of polyester or silk with a crepe surface.Taffeta: A crispy, smooth and glossy fabric in silk or silk blends; small diagonally web; good body and rustle; year-round fabric (tissue-weight). This crispy and soft fabric is woven from silk or synthetic fibres. Its origin may have come from Persian and means 'twisted woven'. It is one of the high-end fabrics that are suitable for ball and custom made wedding dresses although there are two distinct types of taffeta - one tied-dyed is softer than the much stiffer yarn-dyed taffeta.

Moire: A heavy silk taffeta with a subtle and wavy design.

Linen: Made from flax. Gorgeous, tough and elegant, it is usually blended to reduce wrinkling. It is often used for spring and summer weddings.

Silk: A natural fibre and widely used in wedding dresses, with origins from ancient China. This light and floaty material is known for its radiant shine. Spring, summer or autumn is the best time to wear this type of material. Wedding gowns made from this fine fabric will add a softer silhouette.

Batiste: A soft, subtle summer fabric made of cotton, cotton-linen or cotton-polyester blend. Being a fine and pure texture, it is usually of pure white color.

Velvet: A soft and solid fabric with a felted face and pure underside.
