General advice
If there are not any particular dress requirements, I think it is nice to dress up a little bit. This means a smart, black suit, white shirt, decent silk tie and decent shoes. In addition to this, a reasonable question is how formal the wedding will be.

How colorful should you be?
I advise on checking with the groom. For example, a pink tie can really make you stand out, or you could buy a red vest. But, for most occasions, I think you should be a little more sedate. A silver or black vest, and a plain silk tie will never prove you wrong.
Shoes
Fine Italian black leather shoes are probably the best option. When you try them on you should check whether they are a comfortable fit. In general, leather shoes need a decent polish - liquid polishes you can buy in the shop, while convenient, can damage them.
Socks
Grey or black socks are defiantly the best. I think cotton socks are particularly fetching, because they are good at dealing with sweat.
Belt
I think a leather belt, with a simple button is quite adequate.
Cufflinks
If you choose to go for cufflinks, I suggest plain silver is best, and you don't want them to be too large or gaudy.
