WIIFM came to fruition when a small group of sales, marketing, financial planning and business coaches were having coffee at an early morning city café. "It's about being in the right place and the right time"
It just so happened I was in the right place at the right time and met one of the innovators of WIIFM. At my second breakfast meeting one of the founding members commented very positively on my choice of Matching Lapel Badge, Silk Tie and Cufflinks, a landmark statement that confirmed my market research.
So I made the right impression without even saying a word. When it came to addressing my infomercial I already had the audience's attention, so getting the message about the core nature of my business across was easy.

Although I am a pretty snappy dresser, I did have converse sneakers on while my attire was far more than casual. Of course he did notice but made positive comment. You can't completely judge a person accurately based on the way they dress.

It is important to remember that when you are networking everyone has to be perceived as a peer. Rip off your corporate badge of ego and treat everyone as an equal whether you're a business baron or a bus boy a ceo or a secretary a judge or janitor, it makes no difference because information is the key. It is information that levels the playing field. In fact a secretary with her finger on the hold button knows more than the CEO will ever disclose. You cannot see eye to eye when you are looking down the nose at another.
Truth is constant corollary
So make a first impression to grasp attention and pave the way to being noticed and heard. Wear a vivid silk tie, or lapel badge, and you can complete the collection with a matching pocket square, but, most importantly, be truthful.
