Are those who long for the pre-PC 'good old days' simply racists, sexists and perverts?
PC = Political Correctness.
Just answered a question on marital rape elsewhere on this site, and someone gave the above as an explanation for certain people de-crying marital rape criminalisation post-1991.
On a lesser scale, many people seem to long for a bit of the old racist 'banter'; in addition to keeping women tied to the kitchen sink, with a social life of knitting and basket-weaving.
Did the old-school Blackpool pier comedians have the right idea? Is political correctness - on the whole - overblown or there for a reason?

Yes, I answered this question as well, probably inadequately, because I argued that what we now question as "Islamist" policies only mirrored our own in the UK a few decades ago.
What I find absolutely fascinating though is this notion of "political correctness" and whether, shock horror, it actually exists at all.
As I see it, the opponents of "political correctness" imagine a massive left-wing conspiracy backed by government and media to deny the slightly more right wing persuasion their "freedom of speech".
This is complete nonsense because if you ever watch or listen to the BBC you will notice that apart from the much publisied rare appearance by Nick Griffin they give massive airtime to the right wing Christian evangelicals, and politicians such as Andrew Greene of "Migration Watch" and they do not act as if we still have socialist parties like the SWP, Christian groups such as the Quakers, more traditionally socialist Christian groups such as the Methodists and the Salvation Army all arguing for an alternative to the present capitalist ststem of greed and spend.
