i think the tie evolved from the neck kerchief, which kept the food off the silk over- jackets. as neck kerchiefs became more "frilly" they became a prominent part of a gentleman's wardrbobe, until they became a "required" part of our garb.
I think we will be stuck with them for many years to come, however, a while back, I became disenchanted with "working for the man" and threw all my Brooks Bros. suits, ties etc. out the window of my condo at the time, and personally have not worn a tie since 1989.
No, I have never been to , nor do I desire to attend a nudist camp. It would seem to me that mystery is the art , and decorum would entail that I myself keep my shirt on, so to speak.
