Self bruising...anything I should know about the bruise?
I'm going through a hard time and there are many times I will sit down with a knife at my arm, tempted to cut, but I stop myself. I told one of my friends this and she gave me a hair tie to snap on my wrist. I snapped it on the inside of my arm at the top (nearest my shoulder) end of of my bicep for a whole day, and it left a red dotted bruise. IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS BRUISE? I'm tempted to snap more in this bruise area for more pain. Is this going to affect me negatively if I keep snapping in this area? I DON'T WANT HELP WITH MY PROBLEM, I HAVE FRIENDS AND A GIRLFRIEND FOR THAT. I am working my way through this myself. I am also not looking for preaching, I am not religious. Thank you very much for your time, reading, and hopefully responding.
I know that bruises are caused by damaged blood vessels and that if a bruise is too big or deep it can become permanent and/or require surgical removal. I am not sure exactly what would occur if you continue to bruise the same spot. It would seem to me that the pressure required to cause permanent bruising isn't going to be applied by a rubber band. However, I wouldn't suggest it. The website I am linking has suggestions for alternatives to physical injury for people who are trying to deal with SI issues. Maybe something will work for you.
