Flip through just about any men's style magazine and you are bound to run into editorials featuring suits from Tom Fords self named label. With rapid expansion planed through luxury retailers, like Saks and even free standing showrooms in the city center of Las Vegas and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, It seems that the Tom Ford label is poised to take the luxury tailored goods market by storm.
A relative unknown Ford started his design career as an assistant designer for mid price label Chloe, before moving to Perry Ellis as a full fledged designer. Soon there after he made the move to the struggling couture house Gucci. Gucci, on the brink of bankruptcy needed a reboot and Tom Ford was just the man with the vision to take it from where it was, a faltering luxury brand catering to "airport" clientele to where it is today, one of the strongest and most respected fashion houses. After an acrimonious split with Gucci Tom Ford founded his own self named brand, promising to bring men's suits and back to the days of traditional elegance combined with the glamor of Fords signature style.
In his collection you will find something truly special. Ford takes ever classic fabrics, from hounds tooth to herringbone, pairs it with classic "old Hollywood" details like wide lapels and pocket flaps and combines it with modern well tailored lines. The style is reminiscent of stars like Cary Grant, and Humphrey Bogart, but the sleek fit and architectural lines create an air of glamor that is unmistakably modern. Add that to the fact that his suits feature impeccable construction, featuring traditional workmanship, and you have a near flawless combination. To realize his vision of the perfect men's tailoring line he also features a vast custom hand made suits program that allows every little detail to be designed with his customers preferences.
The down side to all this though is the price. With suits starting in the 5k range and hand made custom suit in the 7K+ range Tom Ford is not something the average man (or even the above average man for that matter) will get to experience. Even though he is priced along side other elite ultra luxury suit brands such as Kiton and Brioni, Tom Ford stands alone as the only modern tailored label in the segment. Its no wonder the worlds elite is quickly making his suits the new satatus symbol for men's wear.
