Black White Necktie

Help! What color tie?
I am putting together an outfit and i would like to include a necktie with it. The top, as of now, is a white button up and a black v-neck sweater. I REALLY can't make my mind up. Should I even wear a tie? If I do, what would be the best color or design. Also, the bottom will be dark blue straight leg jeans and black low top converses.
I may be substituting the shirt for a gray with thin black vertical stripe button up.
ANY advice will help. My confidence on this subject is miniscule.
It kind of depends on what kind of statement you're trying to make/the situation. If it's a more casual situation going without a tie would be okay-just leave a button or two undone. If it's more formal, I would say if you go with the white shirt then a tie would be best. If you'd like a more classic style black would look nice. If you want to be a bit more bold go with a more saturated color-any brighter color/or even a pattern since your shirt and sweater are a solid color.
However if you go with the stripe shirt i'd think you might not need the tie, or I'd go with either a black or gray tie.
