Cashmere itself is made from fibres obtained from the Cashmere domestic goat. After they are collected, they are dyed, spun into yarns and knitted into scarves and other textiles. Manufacturers in England, Scotland, Italy and Japan are renowned for the quality of their fabric, whilst China has become the largest producer of cashmere, producing 10,000 tonnes a year. Mongolia also produces a large quantity of around 3,000 tonnes whilst India, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey and Afghanistan produce smaller amounts.
